Český Krumlov

On Tuesday, we took a day trip to the picturesque South Bohemia city of Český Krumlov. We explored the towns in groups of three and four and spent the afternoon scrambling to complete a fun scavenger hunt. We took selfies and responded to writing prompts at each stop along the way. After lunch we regrouped with our leaders at the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, a funky and fascinating museum and gallery devoted to the Austrian painter Egon Schiele. Český Krumlov was a charming town, full of cute boutiques and cafes. The castle garden and the view from the castle’s main tower were beautiful—and guarded by a moat of bears!

The day started off with a bang. Our task was to complete an “Amazing Race”-esque scavenger hunt, completing several writing prompts around Českÿ Krumlov. Our final destination was the Egon Shiele Art Centrum. The gallery was my favorite part of the trip (no surprise). I’ve been familiar with the works of Egon Schiele and his mentor Gustav Klimt for several months, but I’d never discovered their names or backstories. As an aspiring curator, it was a dream come true to see their work displayed together (even if one was only sighted in the gift shop). I enjoyed the special insight the gallery provided about their lives; each display felt unique and personal. Even the lighting added an element of immersion. Coming face to face with a piece of work that is so enchanting was deeply special and inspiring for me.
